I produce, design, and create games. Here’s a sample of some of my work.
BarbieTM You Can Be AnythingTM: The Experience
Partnering with Mattel and BarbieTM, I have been proud to lead the Interactive Technology Team at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis in the creation of six games and interactive experiences focused on highlighting careers where girls and women are historically underrepresented. The goal is to help girls broaden what roles they view as possibilities for themselves, combating the Dream Gap. Through imaginative play, we hope to use our games and the exhibit itself to inspire. See a selection of the games below.
Wildlife Photography
In the Wildlife Photography game, scan through the jungle to find wildlife. The game evaluates the composition of the photos based on how the figure fills the frame and whether or not it is in an action pose and provides users with feedback on their photos and selects the best highest scored photo for the cover of a magazine.
Chef
In the Chef game, drop ingredients into a pot (using physical props) to create a soup. An algorithm combines the ingredients to reveal the unique soup that the user has created, with custom art for many “secret recipes” that can be discovered.
Fashion Designer
In the Fashion Designer game, choose a fashionista client, then choose the silhouette, fabrics, and accessories to design an outfit for them. See the results on your client. Results can be emailed home.
Take Me There®: Greece
In Take Me There®: Greece, discover the vibrant culture of contemporary Greece where modern life goes against the backdrop of the ancient Greek world. My first project with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, I lead the internal team in the creation of four games and project managed outside vendors for the creation of two additional games. See a selection below.
Corinth Archaeology
In the Corinth Archaeology game, uncover artifacts from ancient Corinth, and learn how to discover details about Corinth, using your artifacts as clues. Swipe to dig through the dirt, and use a variety of clue types to determine the original era of your artifact. Uses real artifacts from a real archaeological dig in Corinth, Greece.
Speak Some Greek
In the Speak Some Greek game, learn to say six basic phrases in Greek. Voice recognition software will detect your accuracy as you speak into a microphone.
Greek Alphabet
In the Greek Alphabet game, learn the different letters of the Greek Alphabet by using the letters in a word scramble to spell some simple Greek words. Click the letters to hear what they sound like, and drag and drop them into place to spell the word.
Treasures of Ancient Greece
Featuring many artifacts from Ancient Greece, the games in this exhibit at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis highlight how the ideas of the ancient Greeks form the basis of much of Western civilization as we know it today. I led the creation of six games for this project, two with the in house team and three with vendors. See a selection below.
Voting
Learn about the origins of democracy by voting as a citizen in an issue presented by an Ancient Greek Assemblyman. Listen to the issues, vote, and view the collected results of each issue based on the votes of everyone throughout the day.
Philosopher Portrait
See yourself as a famous ancient philosopher. After choosing the philosopher of your choice, this game guides you to take your photo, and will map your face onto a bust of your chosen philosopher. The image can be emailed home.
First & Goal
First & Goal is an indoor football experience at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis that was created in partnership with The Indianapolis Colts. I led our internal team in the creation of five games for this exhibit. See a selection below.
Superfan Face Painting
Take your photo and transform it with digital face paint to see yourself as a superfan. Select the colors and shape for your paint, and select lettering and/or choose from a variety of stickers to give your painting even more personalized style. Image can be emailed home.
Space gARden
Check out Space gARden, a combination AR/VR experience using the Oculus Rift DK2 and OVRVision, navigated using the LEAP motion and AR markers, creating 3D elements that mix with the real world. A mysterious message arrives for the player, and guides them through creating plant creatures on new worlds throughout space. Preview your designs through portals, and interact with them to explore how you can effect your new worlds. I worked as the producer of this project, and also did the sound design and some animation.
Feeling Factory
Check out Feeling Factory, the game I created as part of my thesis project, which won the 2015 Drexel University Graduate Research Award. Previous research has shown that children with Autism Spectrum Disorders tend to struggle with correctly identifying and producing prosodic cues and may have a predilection for using computer and games. However, there are currently no digital games that target prosody production and perception. The design of the digital game Feeling Factory explores how to combine prosodic speech therapy techniques with game design techniques. The goal of the game is to improve emotional and grammatical, productive and receptive prosody in high-functioning children with ASD. Feeling Factory uses a two-player design in order to balance engagement via the digital game with contextual generalizability via in-person conversation. A feasibility study was conducted consisting of semi-structured interviews with a panel of experts and children with ASD to help determine the potential benefits of this design model. The study resulted in a high recommendation from both groups. This was a solo project.
Little Newton
Check out Little Newton, a game that teaches some basic physics concepts along with 3D defense game fun. It won an Honorable Mention at Drexel Reasearch Day 2014 (announcement here) and was published in the Proceedings of CHI Play ’14 (available here). I worked as the producer and designer of this project.
